The European Union’s legislation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) poses rules for the industry manufacturing or importing chemical to the EU nations. These companies must register the chemicals to the European Chemical Agency (located in Helsinki, Finland like we are) in a SIEF (Substance Information Exchange Forum) consortium with other companies operating on the same concerned chemical. The REACH legislation may be the strictest of its kind in the world. It s also the most complex piece of legislation in EU history (over 800 pages). REACH legislation concerns several tens of thousands of chemicals.
REACH regulations in safety assessment
The REACH legislation creates several demands for assessing the safety concerns of the chemicals, including physical chemistry, toxicology, genotoxicology, ecotoxicology, environmental fate as well as possibilities for alternative testing methods.
We provide safety testing in the above mentioned areas for chemicals. Further to this, we provide the expert advice on what tests are needed and how to plan the individual tests as well as the whole testing strategies. Our toxicology testing is accredited to the required OECD GLP requirements.
SBW expertise for toxicology and safety
In addition ot the chemical testing using vertebrate animal species, there is a need for compensatory methods for evaluating the chemical safety. Examples of these methods include various biochemical and cell based assays as well as in silico toxicology with QSAR, PBPK and virtual organ models, predictive expert systems, toxicogenomics and various aspects of systems biology.
SBW’s research service platform covers many areas in toxicology and safety related assessments as well as regulatory expertise consulting. We offer multiple standardized in vitro and in vivo models for toxicology and safety, both under non-GLP as well as GLP standards.
With the various mentioned activities toxicology and safety assessments, SBW offers you a platform and experts for testing chemical safety as per the REACH regulations.
